Hello everyone, By popular request spend just 5 minutes of your time aboard my narrowboat home. Glorious views and picturesque villages along my route also some others not quite so good are covered by the channel So, if you're curious about the reality of full time offgrid solo narrowboat life come along with me I've got lots of content coming your way in 2025 A full video covering all aspects will be forthcoming but for now just a short taster is here A controversially debated subject Having explored electric propelled boating I have decided a more eco friendly way of powering a narrowboat boat 100% offgrid all year round is a small modern diesel engine producing heat for water and electricity in winter and summer plus 1400w solar and 600 ah of lifepo4 battery bank charged both by solar and engine hence no generator or power stations required Gas diesel and fuel are all very expensive to buy so are minimised in summer by induction cooker /air fryer using available solar between April and Oct/Nov I tried a portable power pack but it was not really any use and ran out of power when needed so went for 6 times the power of lifepo4 (Lithium iron phosphate) not li-ion batteries as a cheaper alternative with bluetooth app for viewing usable power and top grade BMS now over 20 years in use and still going strong and not a victron unit in sight.
