I bought a White 999 sewing machine (that’s probably a little over 40 years old) at Goodwill for $50. Was it worth it? I was pretty happy with the basic, straight stitch I was able to sew after this machine’s spa day. But, I realized I forgot to clean the tension disks. I also looked at my manual to see what else I should do. 0:00 - Intro 00:24 - Following my own advice (from last week!) 00:29 - Excuse me while I climb up on my soap box 02:56 - Getting under the hood of this thing 03:18 - I ended up not needing this, but I like having a magnet around to make sure I don’t lose any screws! 08:25 - I couldn’t take it anymore, so I started picking off the price tag 09:18 - Oiling/cleaning the area above the needle bar. 12:44 - I realize this part is really hard to see which could be why the manual is like, well, oil it if it moves! 13:46 - Investigating the bobbin area 15:05 - Test drive 15:24 - Sometimes I lower the presser foot just to thread the needle - I find it makes it easier to see what I’m doing. 16:15 - Taking those first two stitches by turning the handwheel, while holding the loose threads of my bobbin and needle helps me feel more confident that I won’t jam the machine and nothing major is going wrong. 17:16 - Examining the stitching
