Lisa Bolte was born in Sydney and studied dance at Caprice in Brisbane. In 1985 she graduated from the Australian Ballet School, joining The Australian Ballet Company in 1986. Lisa was promoted to Principal Artist in 1993. In 1998 Lisa was awarded the Mo award for best female dancer after her performances in Romeo and Juliet. Lisa's highlights with The Australian Ballet included touring internationally, dancing Aurora in The Sleeping Beauty (1988) in London and Japan (1991), Kitri in Don Quixote (1994) in Washington and Lisa in La Fille mal Gardee (1994) in Seattle, Giselle and Coppelia (1992) in London and Swanhilda in Coppelia (1996) in Japan, At the Edge of Night and Dark Lullaby (1999) in New York and Washington. As a guest artist Lisa has performed with The National Ballet of Canada in Swan Lake and The Merry Widow (1994), with The Maryinsky Ballet as Giselle and as Kitri in Don Quixote (1996) and with The Royal Danish Ballet as Odette/Odile in Peter Martins' world premier season of Swan Lake (1998). In 2007 Lisa performed at the Queensland Ballets international Gala in Raymonda and At the Edge of Night both by Stephen Baynes. Roles created by Lisa include Snugglepot and Cuddlepie (1988) by Petal Miller; At the Edge of Night (1997) and 1914 (1998) by Stephen Baynes, Dark Lullaby by Natalie Weir (1998); The Book of Alleged Dances (1999) by James Kudelka. In 2002 Lisa left The Australian Ballet to become a mother. At this time she commenced teaching regularly. Lisa returned as a Guest Artist for Romeo and Juliet (2003); La Sylphide (2005). She became Resident Guest Principal Artist in 2005 dancing Aurora in Stanton Welch's world premier season of The Sleeping Beauty. The following year Lisa danced Giselle, Spectre de la Rose, Les Sylphides and was cast as Raymonda in the world premier season of Stephen Baynes' Ballet Raymonda. In 2007 Lisa performed in her final seasons at The Australian Ballet most notably as the Sugar Plum Fairy in Sir Peter Wright's production of the Nutcracker.
