By not seasoning a humidor, you risk damaging your cigars as the dry wood will absorb moisture from both your gels and the cigars themselves! This particular method uses Boveda's seasoning packs, which we have found to be by far the easiest and most convenient way of ensuring a properly seasoned humidor. You will need 1 seasoning pack per 25 cigar storing capacity. Therefore, if your humidor is a 100-count storage solution, you will need only a total of four packs. There are also larger seasoning packs available for big humidors, which will season a cubic foot of storage space. All you need to do is evenly place the seasoning packs inside the humidor. After that, you close it and leave it for two weeks so that the humidor can absorb the moisture from the packs. Once this is complete, simply discard the packs and place your cigars inside! If you already have cigars and need to store them somewhere during the seasoning process, we recommend using a Boveda 1-year storage bag, which offers a reduced humidity exchange compared to regular ziplock bags (link above). Do take care to not use too many seasoning packs as unlike regular Boveda packs, too many can release too much moisture. Using too many seasoning packs may damage your humidor as it will bloat and warp under the extra humidity. For us at Bespoke Unit, using Boveda's seasoning kit is by far the most convenient and easiest method for quickly preparing a humidor. You don't need to wipe down the interior with a wet cloth, which can also damage a humidor if too much water is applied. Just remember that a new humidor will need reseasoning once a year for the first four years of its lifetime. So you will need to eventually repeat this process when the time comes.
