WARREN COUNTY, Ohio (WKRC) - A Warren County judge sentenced a man, who shot a deputy and his own father, to 36 years in prison. A jury found Mohammed Laghaoui guilty of nine of ten counts against him back in April. Those charges included attempted murder of a deputy. Warren County deputy Katie Barnes was emotional as she said she was ready to close the final chapter of this book. Deputy Barnes was shot while responding to an apartment complex in Deerfield Township for a second time for a domestic dispute in June of 2016. During the trial, she said she thought she was going to die. Assistant prosecutor John Arnold said that Deputy Barnes came within a fraction of an inch of losing her life in what he called an ambush. Arnold said Laghaoui has never expressed any remorse about the shootings. He says that family has been destroyed. Laghaoui's father did apologize for his son's actions and asked the judge to help his son. The father was also shot that night. He was hit in his hand. Laghaoui also threatened to shoot a neighbor. Laghaoui's attorney said that his client is mentally ill. Laghaoui's father said during the trial that his son was paranoid and acting strangely. The judge asked Laghaoui several times if he wanted to say anything ahead of his sentencing but he refused.
