These are single malt whiskies I've had lying around in the review queue for awhile - three are Scotch, one is Indian, one is Tennessean - regarding which I could just never find a compelling video review theme. So there isn't any. Malt whisky ad libitum, then. Whadda we got? The Strathmill is a lighter-styled Speysider bottled a decade ago, but since this 1999 batch is now reappearing via other cask releases I thought it would be useful to provide context; Dailuane (another Speysider and another "secret still" in the Diageo stable) has a bit of a reputation among the nerds as a sherry monster, except that this release was aged in port casks; and this Glenturret, made at an obscure and often ill-regarded Southern Highland distillery, is from a peated batch (I've elsewhere seen this variation called Ruadh Mhor - think Edradour v. Ballechin or Springbank v. Longrow). As for the other two, the Paul John is the unpeated answer to that Peated Select monster I reviewed last month ( • Peatparison: Bunnahabhain Staoisha 2014 4y... ) while the Prichard's is, well, Tennessee having a go at doing Ireland. Here are the stats: Benjamin Prichard's Single Malt Whiskey (Kelso, TN; bottled around 2012-3; 40% ABV), 80/100 Paul John Classic Select Cask (Goa; Batch #3, Nov. '16; unchillfiltered, natural color; 55.2% ABV), 84+/100 Strathmill 10 Year Old (Gordon and Macphail Reserve for Maxwell Street; 1999-2010; Cask #536, 223 btls; 56.1% ABV), 84+/100 Dailuaine 10 Year Old (Creative Whisky Company Exclusive Malts; Distilled 11/13/07; Refill Port Hogshead #2049, 290 btls; 58.4% ABV), 76/100 -Glenturret 8 Year Old (North Star; 3/2009 to 9/2017; 330 btls from a Refill Bourbon Hogshead; unchillfiltered, natural color; 57.1%) 90-/100 Thrill as I get my palate progressively wrecked over 40+ minutes! As I get confused nosing the wrong glasses! As I get my worst fears about port casks realized! The biggest takeaway might be, I am now publicly ringing all the alarm bells I can about peated Glenturret. (Remember how everyone laughed at Tobermory and then had to get real serious once the Ledaig batches from the late '90s onwards started to hit? Yeah.)
