A Fresh Sound: TM Studios Reinvents the Sonic Identity of Magic Radio When Bauer Media set out to refresh the entire Magic Radio brand, from breakfast through Mellow Magic. They turned to a name steeped in radio heritage: TM Studios. Following a competitive pitch, TM was commissioned to build a full sonic identity for Magic’s rebrand, including Gok Wan & Harriet Scott’s new breakfast show and the network’s iconic evening show Mellow Magic. The brief was clear: make Magic feel fresh again, while staying true to its warm, familiar personality. Chris Stevens and Dave Bethell led the project for TM Studios. “Magic was evolving,” explains TM Studios co-owner Chris Stevens, “and that gave us the opportunity to create a sound that connects generations of listeners, from those who already know and trust Magic Radio, to new audiences discovering it for the first time.” The resulting melody is instantly memorable: simple, singable, and backed by a vocal sound designed to be unmistakably Magic Radio. Each theme was recorded with a blend of UK and US session talent, capturing the richness of the brand’s playlist, from timeless soul to modern pop and even the theatrical flair of Magic Musicals. Bauer’s Group Operations Director Chris Ward says the collaboration has paid off: “TM have created the perfect jingle package for Magic Radio. It’s contemporary, friendly, and the new melody immediately sticks in your head. It’s exactly what we were after.” The project also extends across Magic Radio’s brand extensions including Magic Soul and Magic Musicals, uniting the network under one melodic DNA, a move that signals how seriously Bauer is treating sonic branding in 2025. “We wanted the Magic identity to sound like it feels,” adds TM Studios Co-Owner Dave Bethell. “Friendly, familiar and warm, but with a confident modern polish.” Cuts from the package, alongside commentary from Bauer’s Chris Ward, can be heard in the launch video accompanying the announcement.
