After 56 years of loyal service to the rail commuters of NSW, Friday 30 January 2026 saw the final runs of the V set trains during the morning peak. This episode features the arrival of the last V set train which was operated by V25 & V10. With the terminal carriages repainted into the original blue goose fronts, a massive crowd of people were waiting for the final arrival into Central. Onboard the final train, there were an estimated 800 people waiting to board the train at Lithgow, the first stop of the train. These people were later joined by other people as the train snaked down the mountains & into western Sydney. On what was a normal commuter service, the final train did run late & some stops were skipped due to the late running & overcrowding onboard the train. As the NSW Railway Band played in the background, train number W524 with V25 & V10 arrived to end an era. The episode features some of the build up to the train's arrival & the train's arrival. Media interest was high with a large gathering of media also waiting for the train. Two stations aired footage obtained footage from a helicopter as the train ran through western Sydney. There's a look back at the past with the V set being the first electric trains to places such as Wyong, Newcastle, Wollongong, Dapto & Kiama. There's historical information about the trains on the Blue Mountains called The Fish & The Chips & how those nicknames became officially recognised. ABOUT A MOUNTAIN OF WORK A Mountain Of Work was born in October 2022 while recording footage on a rail tour around Port Waratah near Newcastle. After many years of recording transport action by taking photos, improvements and popularity of the video format meant that A Mountain Of Work should be a video channel. The majority of footage is shot on various mobile devices with post production also performed on mobile devices. A deliberate plan was for A Mountain Of Work to be all about the subjects of the video and not the creator of the channel. As a result, there is no narration or commentary. The only noise you will hear while be those that are heard on location. Often, no special audio equipment is used. Any information featured on A Mountain Of Work is from publicly available sources. A Mountain Of Work is not associated with any transport operator.
