This video captures the Panel discussion and follow-on question and answer session. Hosted by the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum on historic Ford Island. This is the first of several Panel discussions to commemorate the 80th anniversary of key World War II campaigns in the Pacific leading up to the end of the war. Panelists were General (Ret) David Bramlett, Ambassador (Ret) Jim Moriarty, and Author-Historian Professor John McManus (Fire and Fortitude, The US Army in the Pacific War, and several other works). The Panel reviewed the major campaigns from Pearl Harbor to the massive air-land and sea campaign in the Marianas Islands (Guam, Saipan, and Tinian) June-August 1944. Key points of discussion include: Why was there a second World War just 20 years after the first? What were the specific causes of WWII? How predictable was War in the Pacific? How predictable is future War in the Pacific? Where were (and are now) the opportunities to prevent war? What lessons in Diplomacy did the world adopt after the two world wars? What lessons remain to be applied from War in the Pacific? Moderated by Karen Knudsen, Adjunct Senior Fellow and co-President, East-West Center Association Executive Committee.
