Located in your calf region, the fibula bone is the focus of this anatomy lecture. The placement of the fibula, present laterally to the tibia, resembles a Roman brooch. ▬ 📌 Fibula Being the most slender bone in the body, it does not play a role in weight-bearing. However, this role is fulfilled mainly by the other lower limb bones which are the femur, tibia, and the bones in your foot. We talked about the anatomy of these bones, in previous lectures. Check them out here: Femur, Tibia, and Tarsals. Fibula Bony Landmarks As with all the long bones in the body, the fibula is also divided into three parts to study it: 🟡 the proximal end 🟡 the shaft, 🟡 the distal end. We will look at the different bony landmarks present in each part. The main function of the fibula is to provide muscle attachments, especially for the stability of the ankle joint. To properly understand the anatomy of fibula we must learn about all these associated muscles in this lecture. We make it easy for you by helping you memorize them with mnemonics. ▬ 📌 Fibula Articulation We also debunk a few misconceptions about the fibula, and how it does not directly attach to the knee joint. Whereas it is present a little below it. The fibula forms two articulations with the tibia: at the top making up the proximal tibiofibular joint and another from the bottom making up the distal tibiofibular joint. Distally, they also articulate with the tarsals to form the ankle joint. ▬ 📌 Fibula Muscle Attachments At the end of this lecture, you will have a thorough idea about the anatomical features, articulations, muscle attachments, and interesting facts about the fibula. If you want to learn more about tibial fractures and conditions related to injuries. ▬ 🎬 5500+ sqadia.com Medical Videos ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 👩🏻⚕️ Accessible Medical Student Education 24/7/365 💡 Simplifying Medical Learning 💪 Study Hard, Dream Big, Achieve More #fibula #anatomy #humananatomyandphysiology #humananatomymadesimple #anatomyandphysiology #skeletalsystem #skeletal_system #lowerlimbanatomy #lowerlimb #medicalvideos #medicinestudent
