I'm installing an older style Andersen, crank open, deck mounted skylight in this video. I go through the entire process of cutting the rough opening, flashing tape, step flashing and shingling. This is a tricky job but it can be done so that the skylight is leak-proof. This has been up for months now without a single drip of a leak. This is the flashing from scratch method - no pre-designed flashing kits. This is the flashing tape I used (Amazon affiliate link): https://amzn.to/461r07s Video Chapters 00:00:00 - Introduction: Adding Natural Light to the Dream Shed 00:00:50 - Overview of the Andersen Crank-Open Skylight 00:01:45 - Framing the Opening: Structural Considerations & Rafter Cuts 00:04:10 - Cutting the Roof Sheathing from the Inside 00:06:05 - Prepping the Deck: Removing Shingles & Debris 00:07:30 - Setting the Skylight: Proper Alignment and Fastening 00:09:20 - The "Ice & Water" Shield: Waterproofing the Perimeter 00:11:45 - Installing the Sill Flashing (Bottom Piece) 00:13:20 - Step Flashing: The Key to a Leak-Proof Skylight 00:15:50 - Installing the Head Flashing (Top Piece) 00:17:40 - Integrating the Shingles with the New Flashing 00:19:30 - Testing the Crank Mechanism & Seals 00:20:45 - Final Result: Interior & Exterior Reveal *Disclaimer: I'm not a professional, just a seasoned DIYer.
