SOUNDBITE (Russian) Sergei (only name given), truck driver: "The kitchen is working, you can have a cup of tea at least, locals are also helping. There is security, so everything is fine actually, nothing to complain about, especially since it happened unexpectedly, no one expected that (explosion). So everything seems to be fine." (Reporter: "Have you been waiting for a long time already?") "Yes, since yesterday, I almost arrived (at the bridge) when it got broken. (Correcting himself) Since the day before yesterday, right." 7. Various of truck drivers making tea 8. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Alexander Ovchinnikov, truck driver: "Everyday issues have been solved as far as it was possible - food, water and so on, but as to the ferry crossing, they say on TV that 200 trucks have crossed, this is not true. 25 trucks have left the parking during all this time, so we are waiting and nothing is clear. They (authorities) promise (to provide) three or five ferries but in fact there are two old ferries operating and that's it." 9. Various of parked trucks 10. Various of the Kerch Bridge STORYLINE: Over 650 trucks are waiting for ferries in Crimea to cross the Kerch Strait after an explosion Saturday caused the partial collapse of a bridge linking the Crimean Peninsula with Russia. The Kerch Bridge, which holds important strategic and symbolic value to Russia in its campaign in Ukraine, was hit by what Moscow has said was a truck bomb. Road and rail traffic on the bridge were temporarily halted, damaging a vital supply route for the Kremlin's forces. No one has claimed responsibility for damaging the 12-mile (19-kilometer) long bridge, the longest in Europe. According to local authorities, boats and ferries operating at the crossing of the Kerch Strait have already transported over 450 cars and about 3,000 people. One of the truck drivers at a parking lot in Kerch complained about the lack of information. "As to the ferry crossing, they say on TV that 200 trucks have crossed, this is not true. 25 trucks have left the parking during all this time, so we are waiting and nothing is clear," driver Alexander Ovchinnikov said. The bridge is a symbol of Moscow's claims on Crimea and an essential link to the peninsula, which Russia annexed from Ukraine in 2014. The $3.6 billion bridge, the longest in Europe, is vital to sustaining Russia's military operations in southern Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin himself presided over the bridge's opening in 2018. =========================================================== Clients are reminded: (i) to check the terms of their licence agreements for use of content outside news programming and that further advice and assistance can be obtained from the AP Archive on: Tel +44 (0) 20 7482 7482 Email: [email protected] (ii) they should check with the applicable collecting society in their Territory regarding the clearance of any sound recording or performance included within the AP Television News service (iii) they have editorial responsibility for the use of all and any content included within the AP Television News service and for libel, privacy, compliance and third party rights applicable to their Territory.
