Top 10 Billboard artist The Texas Tenors, known from the 2009 season of America’s Got Talent and their PBS Special ‘You Should Dream’ currently airing across the nation, often take a modern approach to singing the Classics. Now, they are taking the same approach to the automotive industry rebuilding the king of American muscle cars, the 1967 Shelby Mustang. In 2015, JC Fisher of The Texas Tenors, will do the unthinkable and transform his 2011 Mustang into a 1967 Shelby. The finished product will be featured on the world's largest automotive stage in Las Vegas, Nevada at the 2015 SEMA Show in November. Taking on the transformation challenge is Retrobuilt, a private company in Nixa, Missouri whose line up also includes the Retrobuilt 1969 Shelby GT500CS and the Retrobuilt 1969 BOSS 302. The idea of taking a new Mustang and ‘Retrobuilding’ it to resemble the vintage classic was so impressive, even Carroll Shelby took notice (before his passing in 2012). Granting the only license and permission to Retrobuilt, this will be the first 1967 authorized by Carroll Shelby for production. JC has been a long time car lover and enthusiast owning multiple classics over the years and has several cars in his current collection. His favorites are his 1966 C10 Chevy Pro-Street Pickup truck, which he purchased when he was 15 years old and still owns to this day, a 1938 Rat Rod built appropriately named Forgery and another 1967….. A 1967 Pontiac Firebird drag car that he enjoys taking to the race track with his two young sons. “I grew up as a muscle car lover and being part of this project is an honor and un-precedented opportunity. We sing on stages all over the world about living your dreams. I’ve always had a passion for cars and the 1967 Shelby Mustang is my absolute favorite. Owning one that will make automotive history is a dream come true…. thank you Retrobuilt!” says JC Fisher of The Texas Tenors. Retrobuilt Owner Clinton White finds it’s the perfect combination of new school and old school, "This gives us all the beauty of the classic without the headaches of owning an older car." Transforming the 2011 Mustang begins with stripping the car exterior and interior down to the metal chassis leaving the engine and engine compartment (and car warranty with Ford Automotive) intact. Build of the new exterior begins using original ’67 fenders, Sport Slats and bumpers but requires complete customization of the body molding as the chassis of a modern Mustang is four inches wider than the original 1967 chassis. The hood, front fenders, doors, quarters and rear deck lid are all made of fiberglass, leaving the roof as the only original piece on the cars exterior after the full body conversion is complete. On the inside, a custom deluxe leather interior with vertical inserts will cover the power bucket seats along with complete custom upholstery. Foot well lighting along with Shelby panels and insignias will be added, the steering wheel and center console will be dipped to look like carbon fiber, and a Bose 3000 watt stereo system with custom speakers will be installed to mold out the interior and trunk area for a unique finished look. Not to mention, the new classic will also keep all the modern conveniences of A/C, navigation system and every powered accessory you can think of. The final piece of the puzzle happens under the hood. Starting with the stock 5.0-liter Coyote engine running 425HP from the factory, power and performance will be boosted with the help of a Procharger supercharger, Cervini exhaust, custom long tube headers by Kooks and a Diablosport tuning system. The results speak for themselves increasing power to an impressive 800HP and more than 550 lbs. of torque to the rear wheels. The Texas Tenors have been documenting the entire process from purchase of the 2011 donor car earlier this year through presentation of the 1967 Shelby on the SEMA stage November 3-6. Adding to the excitement, the car admitted into the 2015 SEMA Ignited Battle of the Builders competition following the SEMA show.
