A sarpanch was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the main market of Baghapurana town of Moga on Friday afternoon. The victim, identified as Harpinder Singh Happy, sarpanch of Patto Hira Singh village was reportedly in the market area when a group of 4 armed attackers opened fire on him. According to eyewitnesses, the shooters fired multiple rounds at close range, leaving the sarpanch with no chance to escape. The attackers fled the scene immediately after the shooting, taking advantage of the ensuing chaos in the crowded market. Preliminary reports suggest that the sarpanch had been receiving threatening calls for some time prior to the attack. Family members and associates have indicated that these threats were linked to ongoing local disputes. SSP Ajay Gandhi claimed it was the personal enmity case. He said the accused were identified and multiple police teams are chasing the vehicle used by the culprits. Police arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and cordoned off the area. Forensic teams have collected evidence from the site, and the body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. Senior police officials stated that they are reviewing CCTV footage from the market and surrounding shops. We are also investigating the recent threats reported by the victim's associates, he said. Multiple teams have been formed to nab the culprits, said the police authorities. The daylight murder has raised serious concerns regarding the law and order situation in the state. Local traders and residents expressed panic, noting that the incident occurred in a high-traffic area where police presence is usually expected. #Sarpanch #Moga #Punjab Official YouTube Channel of The Tribune, North India’s oldest and most trusted newspaper, published from Chandigarh, India.
