Introduction to Studio Lighting Making photographs in the studio, allowing the photographer to be in total control of every aspect of the image, offers unlimited creative possibilities. Introduction to Studio Lighting is a course designed for people who wish to learn to use studio lighting and digital capture skills to create dynamic images. Commercial studio techniques will be the theme of the course which will offer ample opportunity for individual creativity. Students will work in teams to learn to capture digital images while tethered to a computer, exploring a variety of studio lighting techniques and equipment, including studio strobes, hot lights, grid spots, color gels, gobos and soft boxes. Technical areas addressed will include digital camera operation, software settings for capturing tethered, shooting RAW, background gradation and styling. Subjects included are: fashion and portraiture, lighting high tech products like computer screens and photographing and styling still life. All lighting equipment and computers are provided by the school. Required Equipment: Digital SLR camera and lens with ability to tether to a computer and “PC to Household” cord. If the student plans to use their own computer they will need the proper digital capture software for their camera. Recommended Equipment: “Safe sync” and a portable hard drives Prerequisite: Basic digital camera skills (Beginning Digital Camera). Fundamental knowledge of and access to Adobe CS2 or above. Knowledge of Adobe Lightroom or Apple’s Aperture is recommended but not required. About the instructor: Bruno Debas After completing his photographic studies at NESOP in 1984 with a concentration in advertising photography, Bruno Debas returned to his home in Paris, France, where he began his professional career assisting for and studying with some of the city’s top working fashion, lifestyle and car photographers. Upon his return to the United States, Bruno launched his commercial photography studio and has served many national and international clients in the field of banking, healthcare and education. A passionate photographer and filmmaker, Bruno constantly seeks to learn and broaden the scope of his work both artistically and commercially.
