If you have headache with high probability it is tension headache. Because Tension-type headaches account for nearly 90% of all headaches. Tension type headaches are recurrent episodes of headache. Usually mild or moderate. Typically lasting minutes to weeks. Tension headache is typically bilateral in location. Which means pain occurs both side of head. Which is pressing or tightening (non-pulsating) quality. Pain, not aggravated by routine physical activity such as walking or climbing stairs. Nausea and vomiting is not characteristic for tension headache. And it does not worsen with the routine physical activity. Tension headache, also called stress headache, or tension-type headache. It is more common in women than men. Risk Factors for Tension headache are: Anxiety. Stress. Sleep problems. Young age. Poor health. The mechanism of tension headache is not known but probably, Peripheral pain pathways receive pain signals from pericranial (around the head), myofascial tissue (protective tissue of muscles). and alteration of this pathway likely underlies episodic tension-type headache. In addition to these myofascial tissue pain signals, pericranial muscle tenderness, inflammation, and muscle ischemia can have its role. Diagnosis: The diagnosis of tension type headache is essentially clinical and relies only on symptoms. Attacks must meet the following criteria: At least two of the following four characteristics: bilateral location pressing or tightening (non-pulsating) quality mild or moderate intensity not aggravated by routine physical activity such as walking or climbing stairs A duration of between 30 minutes and 7 days. Treatment: Aspirin and ibuprofen, are effective for the treatment of tension headache. Tricyclic antidepressants appear to be useful for prevention, for People who have 15 or more headaches in a month. Evidence supports simple neck and shoulder exercises is effective in managing tension headache. and for headaches associated with neck pain. Exercises include stretching, strengthening and range of motion exercises.
