Performers: ALBERTO BRACONY & G. FREDERIKSEN Vittorio Monti (1868–1922) was an Italian composer, violinist, mandolinist and conductor, born in Naples and later based in Paris. He studied at the Conservatory of San Pietro a Majella and at the turn of the century became conductor of the Lamoureux Orchestra. He devoted himself to the creation of ballets, operettas and salon pieces, but his greatest fame came with the virtuoso Csárdás from 1904, inspired by Hungarian dance rhythms. Monti also wrote music for the mandolin and created his own textbook Petite Méthode pour Mandoline. He is one of the prominent authors of European salon music of the early 20th century, although none of his other compositions achieved the popularity of Csárdás.
