Pushing the Boundariess of Biomedical Science with Frontier

Gina Tourassi, Oak Ridge National Laboratory: The Frontier supercomputer at the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory recently earned the top ranking as the world’s fastest on the TOP500 list. Frontier achieved 1.1 exaflops in full precision and 6.88 exaflops in mixed precision performance. The system is the first to achieve this unprecedented level of computing performance breaking the exascale barrier, a threshold of a quintillion floating point operations per second. In this talk I will highlight challenges and opportunities in the biomedical domain as Frontier is ushering in a new era of supercomputing to solve the world’s biggest compute and data intensive scientific challenges.
