तुलसीदास भारतीय हिंदी साहित्य के अनमोल रत्न हैं। वे एक हिंदू कवि-संत थे जो हिंदी, भारतीय और विश्व साहित्य में सबसे महान कवियों में गिने जाते हैं। तुलसीदास भक्ति काल के रामभक्ति शाखा के महान कवि हुआ करते थे। वे भगवान राम की भक्ति के लिए प्रसिद्ध थे और वे ‘रामचरितमानस’ महाकाव्य एवं हनुमान चालीसा के रचयिता के रूप में भी जाने जाते हैं। उन्होनें रामचरित मानस में भगवान राम का जीवन एक मर्यादा की डोर पर बांधा है। तुलसीदास का जन्म, यमुना तट पर स्थित, चित्रकूट में हुआ था। इनके पिता का नाम आत्मा राम दुबे तथा माता का नाम हुलसी था। तुलसीदास के जन्म स्थान को लेकर विद्वानों में मतभेद है। जन्म के कुछ ही समय बाद, इनके सिर से माँ-बाप का साया उठ गया। सन्त नर हरिदास ने अपने आश्रम में इन्हें आश्रय दिया। तुलसीदास ने चित्रकूट में राम के दर्शन किए। चित्रकूट से तुलसी अयोध्या आए। यहीं 1631 में उन्होंने रामचरित मानस की रचना प्रारम्भ की। उनकी यह रचना, काशी के अस्सी घाट में, दो वर्ष, सात महीने और छब्बीस दिनों में सम्वत् 1633 में पूरी हुई। जनभाषा में लिखा यह ग्रन्थ, रामचरित मानस न केवल भारतीय साहित्य का बल्कि विश्व साहित्य का अद्वितीय ग्रन्थ है। Tulsidas was a Hindu poet-saint who is considered among the greatest poets in Hindi, Indian and world literature. He was a great poet of the Rambhakti branch of the Bhakti period. Tulsidas was famous for his devotion to Lord Rama and is also known as the author of the epic 'Ramcharitmanas' and Hanuman Chalisa. In Ramcharit Manas, he has tied the life of Lord Ram on the thread of dignity. Tulsidas was born in Chitrakoot, situated on the banks of Yamuna. His father's name was Atma Ram Dubey and mother's name was Hulsi. There is disagreement among scholars regarding the place of birth of Tulsidas. Shortly after birth, the shadow of his parents disappeared from his mind. Saint Nar Haridas gave him shelter in his ashram. Tulsidas saw Ram in Chitrakoot. Tulsidas came to Ayodhya from Chitrakoot. It was here in the year 1631 that he started writing Ramcharit Manas. This composition of his was completed in Assi Ghat of Kashi in two years, seven months and twenty-six days in the year1633.
