On 22 January 2025, the 12533 Pushpak Express train was traveling from Lucknow to Mumbai. Rumors spread that a fire had broken out in the coach between Maheji and Pardad stations in Maharashtra. Some people pulled the emergency chain to stop the train at around 4:45 pm. Passengers jumped off the train to the adjoining tracks and were struck by the Bengaluru Express coming from the opposite direction. Residents rushed to the site and offered help. Images of the disaster site show mutilated body parts along the railway track.
