We find ourselves living through challenging times with the present pandemic. Meditation and mindfulness practices can be powerful ways to help us better manage current stresses and uncertainties. The Duquesne University Office of Alumni Engagement and the University's Center for Student Wellbeing have partnered together to bring to our alumni a series of mindfulness meditation sessions over the summer. During these sessions, meditations will be taught and practiced together, such as mindfulness of breathing, eating, and movement, in hopes of providing us with a greater sense of peace and vitality. The sessions will be led by alumni, Dr. T.J. Smith, A'99, GA'00, GA'09, and Amber Lasure, GA'20, of the University's Center for Student Wellbeing. T.J. is a licensed clinical psychologist and has been engaged with meditation for over a decade, most recently leading meditation groups for Duquesne University students. He is currently the Training Director for Duquesne's Counseling Services. Amber has a background in exercise physiology and has taught yoga for 13 years and meditation for 11. She currently is the Assistant Director for Recreation Services and has a profound appreciation for the ecumenical approach to the mission of the University. This last session on August 10 will cover Mindful Movement.
