This trail is in the Greenbrier Area of The Great Smoky Mountains. We’ll cross a few streams on our trip. The water was low on this day, so we didn’t have a tough time crossing. At mile 2.9, we’ll climb to James Gap. Then, the trail will wind down to Injun Creek. In the creek, you’ll find the remains of a Nichols-Shaphard No.4246 steam engine. It overturned in the 1920s. The steam engine went to Big Greenbrier Cove to help with lumber for a new school. While trying to navigate a switchback, one wheel got over the edge the Engineer jumped off and the engine fell down the hill. Some of the parts were saved, and the rest are still in the creek. The creek is named after the accident. The creek is called Injin Creek because the map maker misspelled Engine. We return on the same path we went out on. Out and back on a nice weather day. Little over 6 miles. Joy in the Journey!
