Mimosa + Artist talk + Catrinas = Awesome If you missed opening night - don't miss this closing. After Sunday these works will be gone until next year! Bring your checkbook! Already purchased a CATRINA, come and get your little hotcake! As part of Mexican centennial celebrations, Michoacán artist, and longtime A.I.D.S. activist, Lourdes Moreno presents a unique group of skeletons - a.k.a."Calaveras". Moreno's hand built clay sculptures of Catrínas and Catrínes, delight and revel in their Mexican identity. The figurines bring a modern twist to traditional "artesanía" from Mexico which pre-dates Hispanic times. Lourdes is a professional photographer, sexologist, and anti-AIDS activist, who for years served at the AVE Group (Voluntary Educational Assistance) and is a fervent believer in respect for the diversity of ideas, whether in the case of aesthetic principles or sexual preferences. Lourdes has been exhibited throughout Mexico, the United States as well as internationally. Her work focuses on a broad cross-section of characters including officials, personalities and artists from the turn of the century Mexico depicting the Independence and the Revolution and the citizenry of the Mexican "pueblitos".
