SOUNDBITE (English) Barnaby Wickham, hubcap artist: “Part way through the year, I was like, what are we going to do with all these things? So that's when I started to think about maybe we could create some sort of sculpture. So last year I made a couple wreaths out of lots of hubcaps — hundreds of hubcaps. And then this year I wanted to do something different so I made two. I made the Snoopy that's right outside the house here and then I also made a huge fish.” 7. They have inspired a quest to turn litter into big, eye-catching art, including a giant fish and a head of the Peanuts character Snoopy. STORYLINE: Loveable character Snoopy the dog, larger than life - and made out of hubcaps. This piece of outdoor art is the work of Barnaby Wickham. The head of Snoopy is 16 feet (4.9 meters) tall and about 21 feet (6.4 meters) wide. He's been collecting lost hubcaps for two years and picks them up on his bike rides around Baltimore. So far, he's found more than 700 of them. “Part way through the year, I was like, what are we going to do with all these things? So that's when I started to think about maybe we could create some sort of sculpture. So last year I made a couple wreaths out of lots of hubcaps — hundreds of hubcaps. And then this year I wanted to do something different so I made two. I made the Snoopy that's right outside the house here and then I also made a huge fish,” says Wickham. His unusual hobby has caught the attention of members of the community. Now lots of people let him know if they spot a hubcap to add to his collection.
