Michele’s Story: Regaining Independence with the Travis Roy Center for Enhanced Independence

The Travis Roy Center for Enhanced Independence was established in 2023 at Spaulding Rehabilitation. Led by renowned spinal cord injury (SCI) expert Randy Trumbower, PT, PhD, this first-of-its-kind Center offers SCI survivors personalized, hands-on training and access to state-of-the-art assistive technologies, ensuring more individuals can gain greater independence when they transition back to home, school, and work. Michele Mosher, a spinal cord injury survivor following a skiing accident in March 2024, is a testament to the Center’s impact. In conjunction with her therapy and other special programs offered by Spaulding, Michele worked with the Travis Roy Center to help her prepare for life at home and regain independence using customized assistive technology and personalized care. Michele continues to make progress towards her own goals and is dedicated to being a resource to new SCI survivors as they work towards theirs.
