What happens when the first relationship that shaped your identity — the one with your mother — is also the one that caused your deepest wounds? In this powerful LIVE discussion, I sit down with Dani Ellison, Tisha Curry, and Sondra Thigpen to unpack the layers of complicated mother-daughter relationships, particularly within Black families where silence, strength, and survival often mask deep emotional pain. Together, we’ll explore: Defining narcissism — what it looks like when a mother’s need for control or validation overshadows her child’s emotional reality. The daughter’s inner voice — how the words, tone, and expectations of a mother can become the daughter’s lifelong internal dialogue. When mother is the first bully — how early emotional invalidation or criticism may show up later in a daughter’s workplace experiences, self-doubt, and relationships. Reparenting the inner child — how Black Women can begin healing themselves through self-compassion, boundaries, and emotional truth-telling. This conversation isn’t about blame — it’s about breaking the cycle. We’ll name the pain, honor the complexity, and explore how to move from emotional survival to self-defined healing.
