Well Peeps! Miss Alfredo traded in her diapers for some big girl britches, and is now home with her family! Her new obedience foundation, and a healthy dose of exposure training will bring them all so much closer than ever thought possible! This new foundation is built on respect for her human, impulse control, and a calm state of mind. We were able to accomplish tasks with this pup that would normally be reserved for a much more mature dog! We talked about how Alfredo will need continued shaping until she is completely trustworthy around all of her former triggers—mainly dogs and humans that love to baby talk puppies! The key to her success lies in her person’s consistency! The more they follow through with their demands, the less likely Alfredo will think she can push back. We discussed how a highly structured lifestyle is important over the next few months. that way they are patterning her for calm, stable behavior so that she starts defaulting into making good choices on her own. At no point should a puppy be allowed to make its own choices. You wouldn’t leave a four year old child home alone to make decisions on their own now would you?
