Annual inflation in Australia jumped to 3.8 per cent in October, up from 3.6 per cent in September. The largest contributors were housing (+5.9 per cent), food and non-alcoholic beverages (+3.2 per cent), and recreation and culture (+3.2 cent). Shadow Treasurer Ted O'Brien says it's the "worst news" for struggling mortgage borrowers, who can "kiss a rate cut goodbye". While Treasurer Jim Chalmers said the figures were higher than the government would have liked but driven by "temporary" factors, like state energy rebates coming to an end. Electricity prices rose 37.1 per cent in the 12 months to October, up from 33.9 per cent in September. Economists say the data means the Reserve Bank's job has become more complicated. This is the first release of the complete Monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). #ABCBusiness Subscribe: http://ab.co/1svxLVE Read more here: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-11-2...
