Official audio for Errol Dunkley's late Seventies reggae classic Written and first recorded by Jamaican singer-songwriter, John Holt in 1971, the song has apparently concerns an uptown woman who wishes to be like her care-free, downtown ‘yagga yagga’ boyfriend, although another popular interpretation suggests the song describes the singer's admiration for Fred's prowess with the opposite sex. Errol Dunkley made his recording debut in 1965 while still in his early teens, subsequently building a reputation of note as one of Jamaica’s hottest young talents after cutting a series of chart-topping rock steady hits for producer, Joe Gibbs. In the Seventies, the singer divided his time between his native Jamaica and the UK, so maintaining his popularity both sides of the Atlantic, finally making his international breakthrough in 1979 with this Ossie Hibbert-produced version of the Holt oldie. Dunkley's version of 'OK Fred' peaked at number eleven in the British pop charts, remaining on the chart listings for 11 weeks in total.
