WE GATHER AROUND THE WORD February 18, 2026 Ash Wednesday *Hymn Come, Now is the Time to Worship Call to Worship Psalm 6 To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments; according to The Sheminith. A Psalm of David. O LORD, rebuke me not in Your anger, nor discipline me in Your wrath. Be gracious to me, O LORD, for I am languishing; heal me, O LORD, for my bones are troubled. My soul also is greatly troubled. But You, O LORD—how long? Turn, O LORD, deliver my life; save me for the sake of Your steadfast love. For in death there is no remembrance of You; in Sheol who will give You praise? I am weary with my moaning; every night I flood my bed with tears; I drench my couch with my weeping. My eye wastes away because of grief; it grows weak because of all my foes. Depart from me, all you workers of evil, for the LORD has heard the sound of my weeping. The LORD has heard my plea; the LORD accepts my prayer. All my enemies shall be ashamed and greatly troubled; they shall turn back and be put to shame in a moment. (ESV) Words of Grace True repentance or conversion has two parts: the dying of the old self and the birth of the new. The dying of the old self is sincere sorrow over our sins and more and more to hate them and to flee from them. The birth of the new self is complete joy in God through Christ and a strong desire to live in joyful obedience to God. May God the Father, who does not despise the broken spirit, give us contrite hearts. May Christ, who bore our sins in His body on the tree, heal us by His wounds. May the Holy Spirit, who leads us into all truth, speak words of pardon and peace. Hear the apostle Paul’s blessing upon the Thessalonians as a blessing upon you: “Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; He will surely do it (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24). Blessed be God! *Hymn Amazing Love WE LISTEN TO THE WORD Prayer for Illumination Merciful Father, we confess that we are slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken. Send upon us Your Holy Spirit that we may truly listen to and receive Your Word—not unto our condemnation but unto life everlasting. Indeed, may the Spirit of Life who raised Jesus from the dead overthrow our old self and enthrone the new. We ask this in the name of the one who pointed His own people to the sign of Jonah. Amen. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. WE TAKE THE WORD INTO THE WORLD *Hymn How Deep the Father's Love *Charge *Blessing Postlude
