CHECK ENGINE light? Annual car inspection? Car Scanner ELM OBD2 for iOS and Android In the US, the UK and several other countries during annual car inspection your car is plugged to OBD2 and Mode $06 readouts are controlled. Now you can do it at home before you take your car to annual inspection. Mode $06 functions are related to live data readouts, but these are the specific internal tests that your car is doing to decide whether things are okay or if it should notify you via the CHECK ENGINE light. For gasoline engines, this is a continuous/real-time test and the Misfire monitor status should always read Ready. On-Board Diagnostic Monitors (OBD2 Mode $06) OBD2 Mode $06 (Mode 6) shows the actual self-test data that is used by the OBDII system to detect faults and readiness monitor results. It enables more complete analysis of the DTCs and readiness monitor test results. Mode $06 is an advanced diagnostics included in On-Board Diagnostic standard (OBD2). It keeps track on how emission control components and other systems and sensors are functioning. Mode $06 allows access to the results for on-board diagnostic monitoring tests of these systems. These systems or components can be either continuously monitored (e.g. misfire monitoring) or non-continuously monitored (e.g. catalyst system). Continuous monitors run all the time while the non-continuous monitors run only after certain conditions are met. Car Scanner supports standard list of all on-board diagnostic monitors in OBD2 Mode $06: Exhaust Gas Sensor Monitor Catalyst Monitor EGR Monitor VVT Monitor EVAP Monitor Exhaust Gas Sensor Heater Monitor Heated Catalyst Monitor Secondary Air Monitor Fuel System Monitor Boost Pressure Control Monitor NOx Adsorber Monitor NOx/SCR Catalyst Monitor Misfire Cylinder Data PM Filter Monitor Non-Continuous monitors These monitors require certain conditions such as speed, acceleration/deceleration, fuel level, ambient and other conditions to be met in order for the monitor to run its testing sequence. If the specific conditions are not met, then the monitor will not perform its tests and cannot report as to whether or not there are any problems. Non-continuous monitors include the Catalyst, Heated Catalyst, Evaporative System, Secondary Air System, Air Conditioning (A/C) System, Oxygen (O2) Sensor, Heated O2 Sensor and Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) System. Non-continuous monitors are different for spark ignition cars (petrol engines) and compression ignition cars (diesel engines). There are no problems with this car, these are normal indications during everyday driving in normal conditions.
