Following the Second World War, a number of ex-concentration camp guards were taken to the gallows to be executed for their crimes against humanity. On the Biskupia Gorka Hill in Gdansk, 200,000 people came to watch the executions of a number of condemned former SS guards who were sentenced to death at the Stutthof Trials. Amongst those brought for execution was Jenny Barkmann, a young woman who was known for her immense brutality at the Stutthof Concentration Camp. Stutthof was an incredibly sadistic camp where prisoners were treated terribly, and many of the guards including Barkmann were very violent. Barkmann was involved in sending many prisoners to their deaths in the selections, and they were then sent to the gas chambers. She also would beat prisoners savagely and was known for killing prisoners with her bare hands. She carried a whip and would beat people for any infringement of the camps rules. But after the Second World War, she then went on the run before she was arrested and placed on trial. She was found guilty of crimes against humanity, and alongside other guards was executed in the huge spectacle.
