TOWN OF PITTSFORD NATURE PRESERVE OFFICIALLY OPEN Years ago Joni Mitchell sang about how “They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.” In Pittsford, we didn’t. When I came in as Town Supervisor I scrapped a plan for buildings and parking on significant acreage of unspoiled Town-owned land along the Canal. Instead, we dedicated this unique area of woodlands, meadows and wetlands as a nature preserve. Together with the adjacent 10 acres of preserved Village-owned land, this provides an environment of 30 protected acres for public enjoyment and education in the heart of the Town. Just for fun, last fall I set out on my ancient 3-speed Raleigh bicycle with a Go Pro and had a friend follow with a drone to get some video of this beautiful natural resource. If you haven’t had a chance to walk it yet yourself, come ride the trail with me on video. As you enjoy it, remember that this wonderful resource will be there for our children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and future generations to enjoy in perpetuity. And for all the living creatures that make it their home.
