Welcome to the surgery room! Today, you will learn about the pathology of the perianal adenoma. We will talk about what this tumor is, what causes them, and how we typically treat. You will learn about how masses are evaluated and why we might choose to remove them. We will discuss all of this while doing the surgery. A perianal adenoma is a type of tumorous growth that is most common on older male dogs. In the surgery room with me, is an assistant who is planning to become a veterinarian. She had some great questions so I have made sure to include them throughout the surgery so that everyone can learn from them :) While I will be showing the actual surgery, I will also be discussing the causes and pathology of this type of growth and explaining why we would surgically remove it. Every mass removal is unique in its own way due to variation in size, location, blood supply, and texture of the tissue. This mass was ulcerated and very friable so the surgery was more bloody than average. Rest assured, the dog is doing great and I will be showing you follow up photos at the end of the procedure :) If you would like to check out another perianal adenoma mass removal, please check out the surgery that I did on my dog, Hades: • Dog Tumor Removal | First person point of ...
