With over 120 species, Florida has more orchid species than any other U.S. state. In this presentation, learn more about the natural history, biogeographical affinities, and taxonomy of Florida's orchids and why Florida's orchids are so special in the context of the United State flora. Special emphasis will be placed on the orchid flora of Northeastern Florida. Brandon Corder is a PhD student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison studying orchid evolution and the relationships orchids have with fungi. Brandon is a Floridian, graduate of the University of Florida, and avid lover of native plants. The background image is Platanthera x corderi, Corder's hybrid fringed orchid, a hybrid of Platanthera chapmanii and P. conspicua that Brandon and his father Jeff first discovered in 2018.
