Ilse Werner (vocal and whistling) with Orchestra arranged and directed by Werner Bochmann. Recorded in Berlin in December 1941. The song "Little Jumping Jack" (= "Kleiner Hampelmann") was written by Ralph Maria Siegel (music and lyrics) and became very popular in the war years mainly because of the very charming recording with Ilse Werner. Another nice recording was made by Horst Winter (vocal) with the Lutz Templin Orchestra in July 1941, which I've also uploaded. Ilse Werner (1921 - 2005) was one of the biggest German movie stars from the late Thirties till the early Fifties and was busy on Television and in Shows until 2002. She was discovered in a Drama school in Vienna and made there her first picture 1938 at the age of seventeen. The big German Film Company "UFA" brought her to Berlin and soon she became one of the leading female movie stars in Germany and Austria during the war years. At the end of 1939 band leader Werner Bochmann heard her whistling while passing her wardrobe, was impressed and invited her to make a test recording. So her recording career started in 1940 at the age of nineteen and the following years several songs where published - many of them became evergreens. Here's a film scene from one of her most successful movies: Ilse Werner, "Wir machen Musik": • „Wir machen Musik“ – Finale (Revueszenen) This Odeon record is played on an Electrola table top Gramophone, model 130 from ca. 1930!
