The Booby style of fly has its origins on the British reservoir scene going back to the 1980's and is attributed to a tyer called Gordon Fraser. Loved by many and loathed by others, the booby is a real fish catcher. It can fished on all densities of lines and is popular as a point fly on the "washing line" method. The fly has been so successful but at times prone to causing 'deep hook ups' that it has been banned on some (particularly catch and release) fisheries. On those fisheries where they are allowed it is useful to have some in your fly box. For the summer months fluorescent yellow is my go to colour.
