Review of the BCA (Backcountry Access) Link 2.0 FRS Backcountry Skiing Radio - Outdoor Radio Comms

How much do I like the ridiculously over-priced radio? Enough to defend the need to have it in your bag. BTW, I did buy mine. These can be hard to find so finding a deal on one is like searching for bigfoot. This radio is really expensive for an FRS radio. But it has so many redeeming qualities that it's hard to overlook the fact that this radio is meant to be in a backcountry skiers pack. It's simplified approach means you're less likely to improperly adjust radio settings as with other radios. The biggest selling feature is the smart mic, where the on/off/volume and presets are located. This means that the radio is in your bag. But this also has drawbacks, especially if it's a pain in the butt to install in your backpack. When you need to charge the unit, you'd have to have a cable that reaches into the pack or remove the base unit from the mic cable each time, risking breaking that little hook on the mic cable connector. Overall quality of transmission seems great. I'm happy this is in my pack. But it's a shame that other radio makers haven't answered the call for similar radios.
