Jesus was traveling from Judea to Galilee and passed through Samaria. At a well in the town of Sychar, He met a Samaritan woman who came to draw water. Although Jews and Samaritans did not associate with each other, Jesus spoke to her and asked for a drink. He told her about “living water” — water that gives eternal life and satisfies the soul forever. During their conversation, Jesus revealed personal details about her life, showing that He knew her heart. The woman realized He was a prophet and began to understand that He might be the Messiah. She left her water jar, returned to her town, and told the people about Jesus. Many Samaritans came to see Him and believed in Him because of His words.
