Azad Kashmir is witnessing one of the most intense political shifts in recent years as the no-confidence move against Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq reaches its final stage. Political activity has moved from Muzaffarabad to Islamabad, where key consultations were held and the expected new name for Prime Minister, Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, was finalized after an important PPP meeting attended by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Faryal Talpur, Ch. Yasin, Ch. Latif Akbar, and parliamentary members. Pakistan Peoples Party is confident that voting in the AJK Legislative Assembly will mark the end of Anwar-ul-Haq’s term, as numbers appear to be almost complete. The situation intensified after the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee issued a strong reminder that the new government must honor the previous agreement and that no ministries should be given on Migrant/Refugee quota, nor should the cabinet have more than 20 flag holders. Committee members including Shaukat Nawaz Mir warned that if these terms are violated, the Action Committee will be free to announce a new protest plan, and public pressure may return to the streets. With markets and student groups already showing frustration in parts of Muzaffarabad and Poonch, the political temperature is rising again. Within PPP, internal disagreements also surfaced, creating at least four influence circles over the selection of the new leader: one group supported Ch. Yasin, another pushed Ch. Latif Akbar, a third lobbied for Sardar Yaqub, while a new tilt finally favored Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, a name acceptable to PPP’s top leadership and some coalition partners. Meanwhile, PML-N has strongly criticized the move and leaders have claimed that PPP will be rejected by AJK voters in the coming elections. Muslim Conference circles are also active, weighing their options for the post-change political landscape. PTI, already weakened after defections, may face further setbacks as multiple members either move closer to PPP or adopt silence to secure political future. Local reports claim that former PTI members from constituencies in Bhimber, Kotli, and Mirpur have established contact with PPP leadership, which could change alliance dynamics for the next eight months before elections. Several analysts are now asking whether this change marks the complete end of PTI’s political structure in AJK. Ch. Anwar-ul-Haq, in his latest interview, claimed that he governed with honesty and that if even one rupee of corruption is proven, he is ready for punishment. He said he asked Allah for six months and got two and a half years, but he also accused some players of bringing briefcases and political pressure into Kashmir House, saying that the real fight is not for people’s rights but for power. On the other side, PPP argues that governance collapsed, decisions stalled, and public issues—especially regarding electricity, wheat, student cases, and refugee seats—remained unresolved. The central question dominating public discussion now is whether the next government led by Faisal Mumtaz Rathore will respect the agreement with the Action Committee and address the demands that previously brought AJK to a standstill. His family legacy gives him historical political credibility, but the expectations are high, and the challenges are bigger than ever. Who will control Azad Kashmir’s political future? Will public pressure return to the streets? Will refugee ministries end? Does PPP have the numbers to secure a stable government? And is this the final sunset of Ch.
