#BonnevilleSaltFlats #Utah #DroneFootage It was 30 minutes before sunrise and at 10°F or -12.22°C, we managed to find the Bonneville Salt Flats of Utah in the dark. Once we got there, we waited patiently to watch the sun slowly rise over the 30,000 acre expanse of hard, white salt crust on the western edge of the Great Salt Lake. From the aerial view, it looks like snow, but it's completely covered by salt crust that is almost 5 feet thick near the center of the flats. The sunrise is nothing we have ever seen. The contrast of the glowing yellow sun over the white flat salt land mass was just awesome to see & experience. The freezing cold weather was completely forgotten because of the hypnotic wonder which took control of our mind and body. The fun began by doing trick photo shots on the salt flats and of course, driving at high speed with our minivan at the Bonneville Speedway which is a favorite surface for high-speed automobile racing since 1914 and numerous land-speed records of various vehicle classes have been set here. Unplanned and adventurous, our daughter decided to drive about 2 miles to a brilliant blue canal with water that looks like it was transported from the Caribbean. There's been so many pictures or videos of people paddle boarding and kayaking in a brilliant blue canal out near the Bonneville Salt Flats; however, it's not for public use.
