This video shows the procedure for draining and refilling both differentials on a 1962 Willys Jeep CJ-5. The rear differential is a Dana 44 and the front is a Dana 25. You can identify your model by a number that is cast into the housing of the differential. There should also be a metal tag attached to a cover bolt that notes the gear ratio of your particular unit. These are 5.38 gears which are the shortest, or lowest, gear ratio that was available on this vehicle. We also used new gaskets when we put the covers back on. They were about $5 each and are readily available at your local auto parts store. Both of these require 2½ pints of 80 weight gear lube. You will also want to look for a tag on a cover bolt noting if the differential is a Powr-Lok or Trac-Lok model which were optional equipment and must be serviced differently than a conventional differential. They use a different lubricant and should not be flushed, instead they should be disassembled and wiped with clean rags.
