This video explores the profound 'dual identity' crisis faced by the Hajong indigenous community: maintaining a deep historical legacy of resistance while battling contemporary threats to their land and culture. ​Legacy of Resistance: The Hajong history is marked by extraordinary bravery. They initiated the 'Hatikheda Rebellion' in 1770 against the Sur Sang feudal lords.[1, 2] Later, they played a decisive role in the anti-exploitation 'Tonk Movement' (1937), led by figures like Kumudini Hajong.[3, 1] Their contribution to the Liberation War also solidifies their identity as freedom fighters.[5] ​The Struggle for Survival: Despite their heroic past, the Hajong community in Bangladesh continues to struggle for fundamental rights. We investigate the critical issues excluding the human-wildlife conflict: ​Land Rights Crisis: Still reeling from the exploitation of the Tanka system, Hajong land ownership remains fragile.
