Creepy fossil hunting adventure - exploring a new area

I headed off to a new area of North Canterbury, New Zealand, to explore it and see if there are any fossils to be found. It started off really slowly in a Cretaceous area where I didn't find much, so I decided to move lower down the river to a Miocene era deposits where I managed to find a bit more. There were 2 weird occurrences on the hunt, the first one was when some rocks got kicked off the top of the cliff onto me. I checked up top but couldn't see an animal that could have caused it. The second one was when I found a creepy doll, something large made a very strange noise in a bush I had just walked past - I can't make out what the noise was. It sounded like a very large crunch.
