Calle Nueva is a pedestrian street located in the Historic Center of the city of Malaga, Spain. It stands out as one of the oldest streets in the historic center, laid out shortly after the conquest of the city by the Catholic Monarchs. Opened in 1491, this narrow street, by modern standards, was designed to facilitate the transit of goods between the Puerta del Mar, at the port, and the Puerta de Antequera, situated to the northwest of the walled area. The latter served as the main entrance for agricultural products from the hinterlands, surrounded by warehouses. Until the inauguration of Calle Larios, which runs parallel to Calle Nueva, it was the most commercial street in the city—a character it still retains. Its length covers 190 meters. Prominent buildings along its route include the Church of La Concepción, built in 1710; number 13, designed by Gerónimo Cuervo González; and number 2, renovated by Fernando Guerrero Strachan. Just before reaching the midpoint of the street - starting from Puerta del Mar - one can observe a ghost-shaped pattern in the floor tiles. This design represents the ghosts rumored to exist in a side street of Calle Nueva called Calle Cuatro Vientos. This narrow street with multiple turns was said to make a ghostly howling sound as the wind passed through. And shortly before reaching the end of the street, at Calle Especerías, across from Calle Fernando de Lesseps, there is a drawing on the ground resembling a river, symbolizing the Suez Canal. This is because Fernando de Lesseps, the designer of the famous canal opened in 1869 connecting the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea, purchased a house in Churriana near Malaga towards the end of his life. As a tribute to him, a street in Malaga was dedicated in his honor. #malagaspain #malagawalk #walkingtour #málaga #malagatravelguide 4K ULTRA HD 60FPS video made by DJI Osmo Pocket 3
