Great Doxology in Syriac - teshbuhto d'malakhe - Malakhamarude Stuthippu

This is the Syriac version of the Great Doxology. It is one of the earliest Christian hymns, most likely from the 2nd century. In the West this hymn is popularly know by its Latin name; 'Gloria in excelsis Deo'. The Latin translation of this hymn is attributed to Saint Hilary of Poitiers (c. 300–368). In the Byzantine Orthodox churches this hymn is known as the Great Doxology. In the Syriac Orthodox Church this hymn is known as "teshbuhto d'malakhe" which means 'Praise of the Angels' (in Malayalam മാലാഖമാരുടെ സ്തുതിപ്പ് ). This name comes from the first two lines of the hymn which is the hymn of praise sung by the Angels at the Nativity of our Lord (Luke 2:14). This hymn is sung everyday at the end of the canonical prayers (shimo) of midnight; know as Lilyo (aka Matins/Orthos). Towards the end of the matins (Lilyo) the celebrant chants: "As the angels and archangels on high in heaven sing praise, so we poor children of earth sing praise and say: At all times and at all seasons:" In response the congregation and the choir chants the above 'teshbuhto d'malakhe' (Great Doxology) hymn. https://sites.google.com/site/syriano...
