Dr. Wily Stage 1 Theme from Mega Man 2's OST has never been so...jazzy. Until this jazz lounge sax remix arrived. Please enjoy. Have you ever wondered why so many robots in the Mega Man series are named after musical terms? Whether it's the Japanese version or the English version, you have Rock and Roll, Treble and Bass (or, if you prefer, Gospel and Forte), Blues, Tango, Beat and Reggae. Camcom has been trying to secretly share hidden lore with all adoring Mega Man fans. Can we imagine a world in which Dr. Wily wasn't always evil? Perhaps he originally wanted to make his fortune in music? This is the story of what could have been. This is the hidden lore of Dr. Wily's Jazz Lounge. (This "lore" is not meant to be real or canon. This is simply meant to be a playful and humorous play on Keiji Inafune's love of naming robot characters after musical terms. That being said, if you didn't like the "lore", please comment and tell me why! Please let me know if you liked the saxophone cover of Megaman 2's Dr. Wily Stage 1 Theme as well!) This was by far my most adventurous cover attempt. Obviously, if you are familiar with the original version of Dr. Wily's Stage 1 theme from Mega Man 2, then you will note that that song is a far more upbeat sort of song. Making the song into a slower jazz lounge arrangement was challenging. In addition to having to create the saxophone arrangement, I tried to arrange realistic piano, vibraphone, and drums for a jazz settings. And you may also notice that this is my first time using upright bass in any of my music covers -- over Christmas, my family awesomely got me the Spectrasonics Trilian bass module. I specifically had this sort of style in mind for that VSTi, so I think that this really helped solidify the jazz lounge style. When I thought about what to do for a music video, I realized I didn't really have much time to record myself playing the parts for the video. So instead, I looked at how I could tell the story through pictures. This is where the idea for "The Hidden Lore of Dr. Wily's Castle" first came into play -- I wanted there to be reason for people to watch to the end of the video in addition to listening to the saxophone remix. Even though I am a video game music cover artist first and foremost, I think that the hidden lore is also some of my best work. Did you appreciate it?
