"After the wild success of ‘Junglee’, Saira Banu became the first choice of filmmakers for the role of a cute, glamorous & westernized girl. During the initial phase of her career she did ‘Ayee Milan Ki Bela’ with Rajendra Kumar and the romantic mood of the film brought them quite close. But their romance didn’t go well with Saira’s mother Naseem Banu as Rajendra Kumar was already married. Naseem approached good friend Dilip Kumar to counsel Saira. And in the process of advising her, Dilip Kumar himself couldn’t resist the charm of Saira. Both married in 1966 when Saira was 22 and Dilip Kumar was 44. The best phase of Saira’s film career started after her marriage and she continued working for a decade till 1976. Though the critics had written off Dilip-Saira’s marriage long back predicting it to survive only for a few years, the ‘Made for each other’ couple proved everyone wrong. Their marriage was one of the most enduring marriages of Bollywood. And the way Saira Banu took care of Dilip Kumar till his last breath has been exemplary.
