When this channel started to gain direction, I decided to start the PC Evolution playlist to show how software on the x86 PC's have progressed since the introduction of the IBM PC (Model 5150) in 1981. Here we are now with Windows 95. Windows 95 had a very profound impact of the PC landscape. Windows 95 introduced a user interface that was just as intuitive as the Macintosh Finder. We are still living in a world that was shaped by Windows 95. Explorer is still with us now, along with the Start Menu as well. It's a feature that is simultaneously a blessing and a curse. Microsoft designed a application launcher show powerful that it would doom any success that the Redmond Giant would have when they wanted to scrape it years later. Metro/Modern/Whatever the Hell Tile interface Microsoft delivered in Windows 8 was dead on arrival, in large part thanks to the Start Menu that is so simple, but yet, very practical and powerful and so very well designed. As a company that started off making programming languages, it would only be natural for MS to throw all their development weight behind the new OS. Microsoft knows the needs of the developers like the back of there hand. The support for Windows 95 was extended into updated versions of both Visual C++ and VB, which would eventually be bundled together as Visual Studio. The new programming environment would show developers how to take advantage of the new OS and it's UI. Microsoft would release their development documentation in the form of MSDN (Microsoft Developers Network) to help programmers understand the new API. With all of this and more, Windows 95 would take the computing world by storm. No computer could escape its impact! 86Box is emulating a Multimedia PC with a Intel Advanced/ZP Motherboard with a Intel Pentium Processor running at 75MHz. There is 16MB's of RAM installed, along with a S3 Trio 64 SVGA Video Adapter and a Gravis Ultrasound. Windows is running at the screen resolution of 800 by 600, 16-bit (65,5536 Colors) depth. Windows 95 OSR2 is installed.
