(6 Apr 1995) T/I: 11:02:56 Queen Elizabeth used French champagne on Wednesday (6/4) to christen the German-built liner Oriana, Britain's first new luxury cruise ship for a quarter of a century. The Queen, dressed in a coral-coloured suit, smashed the traditional magnum of champagne against the side of the ship at a ceremony in Southampton on the south English coast. Even the Queen touched on the controversy about the ship's origins, saying that British craftsmen had largely been responsible for fitting out the Oriana.
